How we work with charities
We develop programs that deliver a visual and dynamic spectacle; that deliver a big date in the annual calendar of our charity partners
We want to delight people and exceed their expectations. All our events are meticulously planned to deliver a fantastic experience for all participants. Our support crew ensures that risks are identified and mitigated; particularly for novice or inexperienced crews that are new to sailing. Overall we aim to raise significant funds for the nominated charity for a particular event. We manage and own full programs from design to delivery, with a focus on attention to detail.
How we raise money for charity
We take full operational responsibility for each event with operational budgets ranging from £200K to £300K with between 150 and 300 people. This enables our charity partners to concentrate on engaging stakeholders and maximising the fund raising opportunity. To give you a flavour of the scope of the event a 30 boat regatta will host 250 people and raise in the region of £60K for our nominated charity over the weekend. This excludes any additional fund raising activity around the event such as auctions and raffles and excludes revenue from sponsorship. (Fund raising information for a particular event is shown on the event website.)
How we earn money from an event
Sailing regattas are complex events to both plan and operate. Our project plans run over a 12 month period with the Regatta weekend typically taking part in month ten. This format has been proven over several years to offer a compelling and exciting program for participants. We concentrate on offering a high quality weekend with sufficient staff to offer good levels of support to often inexperienced crews.
Astute Energy has revenue share agreements with our charity partners. The cost of administering and running a full regatta program over a twelve month period is typically 12% to 15% of a regatta budget. In order to minimise the liability of a charity we also take full commercial responsibility for the financial success of the event and regatta participants contract directly with Astute Energy and not the charity associated with the particular regatta.
We do not earn fees from any peripheral fund raising activity but we do charge for yacht training if participants require additional training before their event. Need more information?
